Soaring Pilots Association of Southern Maryland

Why Join SPASM?

Membership Information

Those who join in our first year of existence (through June 30th, 2008) will receive Charter Member status.  Charter Members will receive:

1. Free entrance into club contests

2. Eligible to compete in the SPASM Cup

3. Free webmail through flyspasm.com

The cost to join SPASM is $20 per year, with dues collected on July 1st of each year.

This money goes to support the club, provide prizes and food at club contests, and keep the web site running.

To join SPASM, you must be an AMA member, and must submit the membership form and dues to the club treasurer.  The application will be reviewed by the club officers, and the prospective member will be notified of their status once the review is complete.

Any questions about club membership should be sent to the club treasurer (treasurer@flyspasm.com).

Member Achievements

SPASM exists to support the enjoyment and growth of sailplane flying.  Many of our members are working towards goals for a flight achievement program, towards personal goals, and competing in area contests.  Whatever your interest in sailplanes and electric soaring, you’ll find a member who is willing to help you achieve your goals.

Club Records

SPASM keeps an internal set of club records to document the progress of our members.

To be eligible for these records, you must send an email with your record, and the name of a witness (must also be a SPASM member) to the club treasurer (treasurer@flyspasm.com).

To have a new record type established, it must be proposed and voted on by the members at a club meeting.

Flight Achievement Programs

Flight achievement programs like the LES and the LSF are great ways to improve your flying skills.  In working your way through these programs, you are forced to gain proficiency in all aspects of soaring flight.

SPASM currently has no League of Silent Flight Members.
